Reflection

I will try and tell and explain the importance of protecting ourselves against threats from terrorist groups if I have the opportunity to do so. As a Singaporean teenager, I must emphasize on the importance of protecting our nation against threats as terrorist can attack any country, anywhere, at anytime if Singapore is not alert and if the society does not contribute to protect Singapore, we will be in jeopardy. We must always be physically and mentally prepared. Knowing what to do in time of crisis is vital. The Singapore government has already done its part by promoting National Education and have invested long term by carrying out exercises and building bomb shelters. We, as the future generation, must make an effort to know more about National Education. The only advice I can give is make the correct decision before it is too late. It is only up to them to either choose the correct or wrong decision since they are the ones deciding their future. I hope they will realize the importance of protecting our nation against threats. We must have responsibility, resilience, never to give up, perseverance, endeavor and last but not least hope. Responsibility, to do what is right. Resilience, never give in same as never to give up. Perseverance, striving further doing better. Endeavor, endure the challenges and always be alert. Hope, always have hope in yourself and others. NE lessons should be incorporated so that the younger generation will realize the importance of National Education. We must plant values such as being loyal to the country in them from young so that they will protect the country when it is attacked. If this is not done these people will migrate as they think other countries can provide better opportunities. Thus, there will be lesser workforce and the elderly cannot be supported. This will affect the economy, and Singapore will what it used to be in the olden days. I will have a surprise fire drill to test their alertness and if they know what to do in this kind of situation. Normally, teachers would remind them that there will be a fire drill and they will take this exercise as per normal, because they will know nothing actually happen. From this we can see if they are alert enough and if they will panic under such circumstances. It can also test their cooperation. We can also have fun activities promoting Total Defence and simple quiz to test their knowledge. We can also have a skit about Singapore’s history. I hope this can be a fun and useful experience for them.
